Target of Opportunity Resources

Most astronomical phenomena take place over timescales vastly exceeding the human lifespan. Some, though, occur over years, months, days, even minutes and seconds.

With HBO instrumentation, photometry is possible easily to magnitude 19 (deeper is possible but will require active guiding and a more detailed setup). Long-slit low-resolution spectroscopy can be done on targets to magnitude 15, though guiding will be difficult toward the faint end, potentially requiring a nearby (within 1 arcmin) brighter guide star.
